History of Rajasthan
State of northwestern India, located in the northwestern part of the Indian subcontinent. It is bounded to the north and northeast by the states of Punjab and Haryana, to the east and southeast by the states of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh, to the southwest by the state of Gujrat, and to the west and northwest by the provinces of Sindh and Punjab in Pakistan. The capital city is Jaipur, in the east-central part of the state.

Before 1947, when India achieved independence from British rule, it comprised some two dozen princely states and chiefships, the small British-administered province of Ajmer-Merwara, and a few pockets of territory outside the main boundaries.
After 1947 the princely states and chiefships were integrated into India in stages, and the state took the name Rajasthan. It assumed its present form on November 1, 1956, when the States Reorganization Act came into force.

People

In Rajasthan, the majority of the population comprises of Rajputs. The Rajputs were the former rulers of the princely states and royal provinces of Rajasthan. The Rajputs are characterized by their stout built and tall height. The Rajputs are strict followers of their religion and are ardent worshippers of the Sun, Shiva, and Vishnu. The Rajputs also believe and follow the Vedas or the holy scriptures of the Hindus. All religious and auspicious activities and rituals are done in accordance with these scriptures. Religion
Rajasthan's population is 81 Million Rajasthan is home to all the major religions of India. Hindus are the largest in number, accounting for 90% of the population. Muslims (9.10%), Sikhs (1.27%), Jains (1%), and Sindhi constitute the remaining of the population.
Festival
The main religious festivals are Deepawali, Holi, Gangour , Teej, Gogaji, Makar Sanskrit Janmastmi, and holi as the main religion is Hinduism. Rajasthan's desert festival is celebrated with great zest and zeal. This festival is held once a year during winters. People of the desert dance and sing ballads of valor, romance, and tragedy. There are fairs with snake charmers, puppeteers, acrobats, and folk performers. Camels play a prominent role in this festival.
